The existing pavers on Atlantic Avenue between 8th and 10th Streets have been displaced causing the pavers to become dislodged and present a hazard to pedestrians. To meet current FDOT pedestrian safety and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, FDOT will replace existing sidewalk on Atlantic Avenue between 8th and 10th Streets and on the north side of Atlantic Avenue from east of 9th Street about 130 feet. The purpose of this modification is to improve safety and provide an uninterrupted pedestrian walkway.
Based on FDOT’s respect for, and commitment to historically significant locations, a Cultural Resource Assessment Study (CRAS) was conducted to explore and define the significance of the specific site, the area of potential effects (APE) and the historic district. FDOT’s approach and plan for corrective measures in this instance have been guided by the study and resulting report.
