The University Avenue (State Road 26) from NW 16th Street to NW 19th Street Signalization Project will improve safety and increase pedestrian mobility by adding traffic signals and crosswalks at two locations along University Avenue, across from the University of Florida’s main campus. University Avenue at 16th Street and University Avenue at 19th Street will both become signalized intersections, controlling both vehicle and pedestrian movements through the use of traffic signals. Both intersections will also have new, striped crosswalks as well as improved sidewalks and curb ramps on the corners.
Traffic will be maintained in accordance with FDOT standards. Drivers can expect continuous, single-lane closures for both directions of University Avenue throughout the duration of the project. Pedestrians will also see periodic sidewalk closures and pedestrian detours. Pedestrian detour routes will be signed and advance notice will be provided to the public. FDOT encourages drivers and pedestrians to obey traffic laws, be alert to construction workers and traffic devices, and to closely follow signage along the detour routes.
FDOT selected American Lighting and Signalization to complete this $1 million project by late 2022, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
